We’ve been anxiously anticipating 2015 at the movies since last summer, and this year’s box office is already off to a roaring start with American Sniper breaking records for its huge weekend haul. But the 2015 film slate is just starting to heat up, and it will really take off in second quarter with surefire hits such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, and Pixar’s Inside Out opening in front of millions of moviegoers nationwide. But it’s not just all about superheros, sci-fi and talking teddy bears. Nicholas Sparks’ The Longest Ride and Pitch Perfect 2, due out in April and May, respectively, are also on track to make women swoon and sing.
While first quarter is traditionally the time for big live TV events like the Super Bowl and the Oscars, as NCM’s Cliff Marks points out, movies are the ultimate event programming. And speaking of TV, when comparing projected weekly A18-49 ratings for second quarter films to the A18-49 ratings for the top television programming of 2014, NCM’s FirstLook is expected to deliver ratings as big, if not bigger as the top live programs on TV:
