Andy Serkis is stepping out of the motion capture suit to join the cast of dark comedy Flarsky starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is on track to earn $200 million during opening weekend. This would make The Last Jedi the second-highest opening of all-time behind its predecessor, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. (Deadline)

The Independent Spirit Awards nominees are in, and Call Me By Your Name leads the field with 6 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director and best acting roles for Armie Hammer and Timothee Chalamet. Get Out and Good Time were tied for a close second with 5 nominations apiece. (Hollywood Reporter)

A sequel to Murder On the Orient Express is already in the works. In the next Agatha Christie adaptation, Hercule Poirot must solve a new mystery in Death on the Nile. Michael Green will return to write the script, while it is very likely Kenneth Branagh will reprise his role as the mustachioed detective. (Hollywood Reporter)

Exactly one year before its theatrical release, Warner Bros. revealed a cast video of the highly-anticipated sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, coming  to theaters on November 16, 2018. (Warner Bros.)

Justice Smith, breakout star of Netflix’s The Get Down and one of several new leads in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, will star in the first live-action Pokemon film titled Detective Pikachu. Universal Pictures will handle distribution outside Japan. (Variety)

Filming for the remake of cult classic Halloween has been delayed until mid-January 2018. One possible explanation for the delay is the ongoing casting calls for several open roles. Despite these concerns, the film is still on schedule to meet an October 19, 2018 release date. (Bloody Disgusting)

Sony won the bidding war for Quentin Tarantino’s next movie, set in Los Angeles during the time of the Charles Manson murders. Fox, Universal, Annapurna and Lionsgate were also vying for distribution rights. (Deadline)
