U.S. movie theaters continue to update details on their reopening plans as fans get excited to head back to the big screen. Regal Cinemas said it plans to reopen its theaters across the country with screenings of classic movies and audience favorites before the new film slate hits. Major Theater circuits like Regal, AMC, and Alamo Drafthouse also announced mask policies for audiences as well as theater staff. And Fandango will be making life easier for people looking to plan a movie night out with a new theater reopening program on its website and mobile app featuring resources and information on which theaters have reopened, along with their health and safety policies. The Golden Globes are joining major awards shows like The Oscars and British Academy Film Awards in pushing their date back to make up for lost time due to COVID-19. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Dick Clark Productions and broadcast partner NBC announced that the 78th annual Golden Globes, normally held in the first half of January, will instead be held next year on Sunday, February 28, 2021. The Los Angeles Times is keeping track of all of the shifting dates, with a running tab of the entertainment industry’s rescheduled awards, and major film festival and dates. Studios are cranking their marketing machines back up again with new trailers for upcoming films like Antebellum, featuring Janelle Monáe as a modern-day woman who suddenly finds herself transported back in time to the Antebellum South, and The King’s Man, which is the origin story behind the Kingsman franchise, which began with 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service and sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Wonder Woman 1984 may have been pushed back to the fall, but Warner Bros. can still drum up excitement for Patty Jenkins‘ highly anticipated comic book sequel. We still don’t officially know the reason behind Steve Trevor’s apparent resurrection, but Chris Pine recently spoke with Total Film to explain that his character will be in quite a different state of mind this time around, saying, “What I will say about him is that he’s deeply, supremely excited. He’s excited to be back with Diana. He’s excited about this world. Tonally, what’s different is, he’s not world-weary. He’s not jaded. It’s a complete 180 from the tone of the character of the first one.” (JoBlo)

MGM is roaring back under Chairman of MGM’s film group Michael De Luca, landing several with new high-profile projects including Fiddler on the Roof, which will be directed by Hamilton’s Thomas Kail; Ridley Scott’s Gucci, a salacious true-crime thriller with Lady Gaga; and Project Hail Mary, an adaptation of Martian author Andy Weir’s novel of the same name that’s set to star Ryan Gosling and be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Michael Keaton, who starred as the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s Batman films, is in talks to reprise the character for Warner Bro.’s DC movie, The Flash. There is great speculation about how big or small Keaton’s role would be, but he would appear alongside Ezra Miller, who’s taking on the role of Barry Allen, aka The Flash. (E! News)

A Twister reboot is in the works with Top Gun: Maverick Director Joseph Kosinski taking on the new tornado film. The original 1996 disaster movie blockbuster starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as an on-the-rocks married pair of storm chasers on the trail of a record-setting tornado season, and brought in $494 million at the worldwide box office. Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures have joined forces to co-produce the relaunch of Scream, targeted for release in 2021. The latest installment, in which David Arquette is set to reprise his role as Deputy Dewey, will be directed by Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. (Variety)

Michael Mann‘s long-in-development Ferrari movie is finally shifting back into gear. More than five years after Mann’s biopic about the driver and businessman who founded the famed car manufacturer was first announced, STX has set a 2021 production start date for Ferrari, with Hugh Jackman in talks to star. Mark Hamill confessed that he had secret voice cameos in Star Wars: The Last Jedi alongside his normal Luke Skywalker duties, as well as in Rogue One, and Solo, lending his voiceover talent to droids and other non-human characters. This means that he has appeared in eight of the eleven Star Wars movies, plus The Mandalorian! (Cinemablend)

Paramount is taking The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run off the theatrical calendar and sending it straight into homes for an early 2021 release on PVOD before it hits CBS All Access. SpongeBob‘s departure from the calendar leaves 20th Century Studios’ cop movie The Empty Man on Aug. 7. (Deadline)
